The EU4Innovation will support public and private universities with infrastructure for scientific research for the faculty and students.

On December 20th, the EU4Innovation gathered representatives from public universities such as the University of Tirana, University “Aleksandër Moisiu” in Durrës, the Polytechnic University of Tirana, the Agriculture University of Tirana, and from private universities representatives from the POLIS University, EPOKA University and the European University of Tirana.

During the workshop, the advisor for Horizon Europe, Ms. Elona Xhaferri, explained that the purpose is for universities to be equipped with up-to-date infrastructure to boost their research capacities and increase the prospect of applying to EU Framework Programs in research, development, and innovation.

To conduct an accurate assessment of the universities eligible for infrastructure, the EU4I has developed a methodology with the support of an external expert, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Genc Alimehmeti, which consists of interviews and focus groups not only with the universities above-mentioned but also with others that provided evidence of in-house research by faculty and publications.

During the workshop, Prof. Alimehmeti explained the interviews’ results regarding the categories of infrastructure requested by the universities: physical research facilities, digital and e-infrastructures, knowledge-based resources, and networking and communication platforms.

By the end of January, the universities will have submitted their final proposals for the infrastructure requested so that the EU4I can make the final selection.
