A Joint Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Tirana between GIZ Albania, GERMIN, and eight Albanian universities under the Diaspora4Education initiative, marking an important step towards strengthening higher education and innovation in Albania.
The partnership brings together leading universities across the country to collaborate with the Albanian academic diaspora, creating a platform for co-teaching, co-creation, and knowledge exchange. Through this approach, international academics will work alongside local professors to update curricula, introduce new perspectives, and better align study programmes with labor market needs, particularly in fields related to innovation and entrepreneurship.

By facilitating the circulation of knowledge between Albania and its global diaspora, the initiative contributes to improving teaching quality, strengthening research capacities, and advancing the internationalization of higher education institutions.

During the signing ceremony, partners highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry. In this context, EU4Innovation emphasized the need to equip students with skills that respond to a rapidly evolving, innovation-driven economy.

The programme has already launched 12 collaborations across faculties, engaging more than 500 students in areas such as renewable energy, Internet of Things (IoT), and entrepreneurship. These efforts will be further strengthened through joint research, academic exchanges, and follow-up activities.

Funded by the European Union, Germany, and Sweden, EU4Innovation supports GERMIN in enabling the exchange of global Albanian expertise, unlocking the potential of diaspora knowledge to drive local impact and contribute to a more innovative and future-ready education system.
